About the Scholarship
The Teena’s RN Nursing Scholarship is designed to support African American female nursing students who are custodial parents while pursuing their educational goals at Oakwood University. This scholarship aims to alleviate the unique challenges faced by students who are balancing the demands of higher education and single parenthood.
The scholarship award is $1,000 per semester, not to exceed two semesters per academic year. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to maintain the scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Teena’s RN Nursing Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at Oakwood University
- Be an African-American female student
- Be at least 25 years of age
- Be a custodial parent
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Be affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist denomination
- Provide at least two letters of support from local church leaders, one of which must be from the local pastor
Application Components
The scholarship application consists of the following required components:
1. Completed Scholarship Application Form
2. Official Oakwood University Transcript
3. Essay (500-750 words): Describe your educational and career goals, the challenges you face as a single parent pursuing higher education, and how this scholarship would help you achieve your aspirations.
4. Two Letters of Recommendation from Local Church Leaders
Application Deadline and Submission
The completed scholarship application and all supporting materials must be submitted by April 24, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
